Multifunctional Solar Tracking System using AT8952

9. OPERATION OF THE DESIGN

The main blocks in the design are microcontroller, solar panel, light dependant resistors, inverter, gear motor and power supply. The solar panel will produce the maximum output power at its terminals when the incident light is exactly perpendicular to its plane of incidence. The LDRs used to sense the direction of the maximum sunlight to produce maximum output power. The microcontroller will rotate the solar panel in the direction of maximum sunlight by rotating the gear motor based on the information from the sensors. The battery will be charged with the output power from the solar panels. The DC power stored in the battery will be converted to AC power to run the load which is a simple lamp in this particular design. In the presence of mains the battery will be charged through the mains and stores it. The stored power can be used when the mains is absent. A control switch also provided to ON and OFF the lamp in the inverter circuit.

The snap of the Multifunctional Solar Tracking System project

The above figure shows the kit of the project. The major sections in the kit are solar panel, battery, microcontroller, inverter, power supply section, LDRs.

Solar panel in position no: 1.

The above figure shows the solar panel in the initial position. When light falls on the LDR, based on the direction of the light, the solar panel will be rotated in such direction.

Multifunctional Solar Tracking System – Solar panel in position no: 2.

The above figure shows the solar panel in the other position. When light falls on the LDR, based on the direction of the light, the solar panel will be rotated in such direction.

The load is driven by the battery through the inverter circuit

The above figure shows the load being driven by the battery which stored output power from the panel.
